Who Are YOU?

“We were meant to live for so much more….”

These lyrics from Switchfoot’s song resonate with truth. Job, school, family, bills, traffic… you and I know we are meant to live for “so much more.” In some ways you, and I, and everyone around us can be divided into three groups.

The Hungry:

Those who recognize they have emptiness, a “hole” on the inside, and are searching to fill it.

The Satisfied:

Those who have searched and found the answer to fill that hole.

The Numb Or Disenchanted:

Those who, for whatever reason, have become numb to that hole or emptiness inside and who are content to merely medicate their pain with “success”, drugs, sex, money… anything except the true “something more” that we are all meant for.

At Oak Ridge we are convinced that all the answers to life’s questions are found in the person of Jesus. He lived a life like none other – perfect, loving, holy. Though he lived a perfect life, he died a criminal’s death on the cross – paying the price, not for his own sins, but for ours. Then he rose from the dead three days later. Jesus did NOT come to found a boring religion. Rather, Jesus was and is the most radical example of love and a passionate life this planet has ever seen.

If you are one of The Hungry… if you recognize an emptiness in your life and want to explore who Jesus is and why we believe he has all the answers for your life, awesome! Please come and visit us at Oak Ridge – once, twice or perhaps many times over. You won’t feel like a stranger but will be welcomed as a friend as you ask questions and seek the answers you need.

If you are one of The Satisfied… if you have found peace and forgiveness through Jesus, we’d love to have you visit too and perhaps even join us on this ‘Jesus Journey’ together. But realize – Jesus said the gospel was like leaven or yeast that is designed to take over our lives. At Oak Ridge we are serious about being transformed into Christ-likeness, and having the gospel ooze out of our lives so that others, too, may be saved. True, we want to minister to other Christians and help one another grow in Christ, but our ultimate goal isn’t so much to serve Christians as to equip Christians to becoming all that God wants you to be, including the duty/privilege of being witnesses of Jesus to a lost and dying world. If you want to be challenged in your faith and walk and participate in the process of seeing others trust in Christ, maybe we’re the right church for you. If not, then perhaps we’re not the church you’re looking for.

If you are one of The Numb Or Disenchanted… well, that’s probably not completely true of you, because you’ve already invested the time to read all of this. We urge you, too, to come visit Oak Ridge. Maybe there will be something in one song… just one word from the sermon that morning… maybe it will just be a child’s face that re-ignites in you the hunger to discover the truth that you really are meant for so much more.
