You fed me, you gave me drink, you invited me in, you clothed me, and you cared for me.
Matthew 25:35-36
The Community Outreach Ministry works hard to insure that the needy of our surrounding communities are fed, clothed, and cared for.
Volunteers from Oak Ridge Community Church have partnered with both the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center and Linthicum United Methodist Church to offer a variety of services and activities to those in transition:
On the second Tuesday of each month, the Care Ministry celebrates the birthdays of all residents who will turn a year older that month. If you like to bake and decorate cakes, this is the perfect ministry to get involved with.
On the fourth Wednesday of each month, the Care Ministry prepares and serves dinner for the homeless at Grassroots. Volunteers are always needed to plan, prepare, and/or serve a meal.
Crafty individuals are always welcome at Grassroots. The shelter welcomes anyone who is willing to teach the residents how to knit, crochet, quilt, stamp, scrapbook, paint, draw, etc.
Youth in transition need loving, caring adults in their lives. If you have the time to include a child from Grassroots in some of your family’s monthly activities, this could be the ministry for you.
When families leave Grassroots for a home of their own, the Care Ministry tries to make their transition less stressful by providing them with a Welcome Basket. Donations of food, laundry detergent, and personal hygiene items are always accepted at the church for use in these baskets.
Transitioning from a homeless shelter back into the community can be both exciting and frightening. If you would like to help establish an on-going relationship with a family in transition, consider joining our sponsorship program.
